about us
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give
glory to your Father in heaven.” St. Matthew 5:16
Our History:
On Sunday, April 17, 1994, after fervent, deliberate and effective prayer Progressive Community Chapel was birthed. The church was founded and organized on the doctrine of “the priesthood of all believers.” This particular doctrine constitutes the foundation for the infrastructure and ministries of Progressive. Christ has called all believers to a specific ministry (cf. 1 Peter 2:1-10). This desire translated into organizing a church that has a pastor, a clerk and a treasurer as its only officers, and with all members sharing equally in fulfilling the task of ministry. Thus, ministry is seen as both the work of the ordained minister and the laity. There is a strong emphasis on the empowerment of the laity.
Due to Progressive’s steady increase in membership it became obvious to the members that they should explore purchasing an edifice as a permanent place of worship.
On October 1, 1995 after consistent spirit-filled prayers, financial sacrifice, and by the grace of God, Progressive humbly marched into 599 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, the former First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Progressive Community Chapel has been led by Dr. Brett Snowden since 1994. Along with his wife, Mrs. Ambrozine M. Snowden, they have created a spiritual model of faith, prayer and determination. Christian Education and Family Ministries continue to be the pillars that give definition to Progressive. It is the belief of our congregation that staying in the will of God and depending on the guidance of the Holy Spirit that all things are possible through Christ who does the strengthening.
